16th   Being a member of the Executive of the Carlisle Conservative Association I was present at a meeting of local association in the Conservative Club, Spencer Street, Carlisle.   The Chairman, Lady Caroline Henley, spoke regarding the forthcoming E.U. Referendum, the 2016 local election and the Police and Crime Commissioner election.   The latter to be held on the 5th May and the former in June (Date to be confirmed).  Campaigning for the local elections has already commenced with canvassing of the target wards, these being Dalston, Yewdale and Belle View.   A number of fundraising events have been organised from Barbeques and Hog Roasts to formal dinners with visiting speakers.   The Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday the 11th March.

19th   Today I met up with Mark Wilson, County Council Highways officer, in order to discuss a number of local highway problems that haven’t been acted upon.   These included Pot-holes, damaged road and footway surfaces, lack of white marking on local roads especially at intersections, lack of grit in grit bins and blocked drains.   I hope for better service in the future.   Here’s hoping.   Later in the evening I attended a concert at The Sands, Carlisle by the Halle Orchestra with works by Strauss, Greig and Sibelius, a very pleasant end to the week.
