22nd I was approached about a month ago to be in attendance at the Carlisle Office of the Carlisle and Eden Districts CAB on this date for a Royal Visit. As I had met most of the Royal Family previously, many in my Mayoral Year, I declined saying that I thought that some of the younger members who had not met Royalty in the past should be given the opportunity. However, I received an e-mail from the Leader of the City Council, Councillor Colin Glover, requesting that I attend as the City Council representative, being the longest serving Trustee Director of the Carlisle and Eden Districts CAB. Thus today I am at the Carlisle Offices in Old Post Office Court, Carlisle in order to meet the Princess Royal, Princess Anne, who is the Patron of the Citizens Advice Network. I was the first person to greet Princess Anne as she entered the building and she congratulated me on the number of years that I had been a Trustee Director and hoped that I would continue as such for years to come. She spent about 40 minutes speaking to both the paid and volunteer members of staff, and was impressed with the new Teletalk system where advisers can give members of the public, that live in isolated parts of both Carlisle and Eden, advice on debt, as well as impartial and confidential advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities via a radio/television link. She thanked all the staff for all the hard work they put into helping those less fortunate members of the public and was presented with a posy of flowers by Joan Volter, our Training Supervisor. She left the office to proceed to the offices of the Cumberland Newspapers which are celebrating 200 years of disseminating the local and national news to the residents of what was Cumberland but is now North Cumbria.
